Top 10 Best Movies of the Last 25 Years
Top 10 Best Movies of the Last 25 Years
In an article on the BBC news website, British film critics voted on the best movies of the past twenty-five years. These are the top eleven [don't ask]:

The stupid prats missed all of the good, non-mainstream stuff! Where's Amelie, you bastards!
If you want a good list voted by actual people, check out IMDB's top 250.

GQ did a top <whatever> of movies for their anniversary issue and I hadn't even heard of half of them. I'm pretty knowledgeable in the field of movies, so when some dude lists like 23 movies as the best ever and I've never heard of them, I'm a little less likely to run out and get all of them. As for movies like Fanny and Alexanderand Chungking Express,they've been on my To Watch list for a while.
One time I built a matter transporter, but things got screwed up (long story, lol) and I ended up turning into a kind of half-human, half-housefly monstrosity.

Amelie what?
Look in my humble opinion in order to be one of the top 25 movies of all time, the general public who watches movies, let alone a real geek like me that loves movies, should at least have heard of the title.
That said, is this movie Eurospecific? I mean a movie that did well over there? If so maybe we should clarify. You know, best US, best Euro, etc...
However movies like ET, Star Wars are known world wide. So is Apocalypse Now, Raging Bull, Bladerunner, and more.
So whats Bulldreks top ten? Eleven or whatever?

Here would be a top 11 favorite movies list for me, in no particular order (save the order in which I remember them):
1. Full Metal Jacket
2. The Shining
3. The Last Temptation of Christ
4. Memento
5. Unforgiven
6. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
7. The Great Escape
8. Blade Runner
9. Raiders of the Lost Ark
10. Se7en
11. Marathon Man
For what it's worth, though...
Not that I'm an expert, now... but at least I could tell someone why I liked Raiders of the Lost Ark, an action-adventure movie, over Citizen Kane, considered by some to be the "grand-daddy" of movies... then again, the explanation /does/ amount to a lot of clicking on a keyboard as well![Damn, you're sly. ;)](./images/smilies/bd_wink.gif)
Now, mind you, a lot of the movies in /my/ list are most certainly up there on the IMDB list. Then again, I can't claim which one is the best. All I did was put up 11 movies I really liked (though the entries slowed down at about #7).
1. Full Metal Jacket
2. The Shining
3. The Last Temptation of Christ
4. Memento
5. Unforgiven
6. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
7. The Great Escape
8. Blade Runner
9. Raiders of the Lost Ark
10. Se7en
11. Marathon Man
For what it's worth, though...
Somehow I have more faith in a bunch of accountable people who have seen more movies than I ever will than a bunch of faceless people who can click on a button on a website and not have to explain why they like a certain movie better than another movie.If you want a good list voted by actual people, check out IMDB's top 250.

yeah?! I don't think Godfather should be anywhere NEAR a top 250!!! Al Pacino is a hack!! A HACK!!!!

The Shrimp's Top 11.
Hmm, my top 11 (plus one), huh?
1. Enter the Dragon. (Who needs a plot when you have Bruce?) What other movie helped launch Asian actors and martial arts more into the mainstream US audience?
The Bruce Lee-version of Game of Death is damn cool too.
2. Drunken Master. It helped change the face of martial arts movies from I'm-going-to-whoop-your-ass to I'm-going-to-whoop-your-ass-in-a-funny-and-normally-dangerous-way. (And hell, Jackie was in Enter the Dargon too. You gotta love that.)
3. The Star Wars Trilogy. I know this really counts as three, but I love them all equally.
4. Real Genuis. Does anyone remember when Val Kilmer had a sense of humor? Spy Hard, anyone?
5. The Terminator. It showed you didn't need a huge budget to make a quality sci-fi film.
6. Made. Vince Vaughn is absolutely hysterical (and annoying) in this flick. I loved it.
7. Godzilla. Sure it was a man in a rubber suit, who cares? It was a big success when it came out and started a whole line of copycats. (The original Gamera was cool too.) For a silly Godzilla-esque movie watch Gorgo. Basically, replace Tokyo with London.
8. Time Bandits. Two words: funny midgets. The end was a tad odd, but bearable.
9. Empire of the Sun. Before he was slaying dragons (Reign of Fire), Christian Bale was a silly British boy trying to survive in a Japanese controlled WWII internment camp.
10. Vampire Hunter D. I just really find this movie entertaining. It's nothing special, but it's good for some decent animated violence.![Happy faces. :)](./images/smilies/bd_smile.gif)
11. Cubed. Or was it Cube? I forgot. Either way, it was a cool movie. And if anyone can tell me what the hell the ending meant, I'd appreciate it. I have some ideas, but God only knows if they're right.
12. Indiana Jones Trilogy. Once again, counts as three, but I loved them all. (Yes, even Temple of Doom.)

Are you talking about Cube?. Cubed. Or was it Cube ?
I thought this was a pretty freaky movie. What happened at the end that was a confusing interpretation? I can't recall.
My sister liked it, but had severe problems with the Number Logic they used. She's a Mathmetician (by degree). she tried to explain what was wrong, but my poor little Engineer's brain curled up and died trying to understand.

Madebut not Swingers? Both Vince Vaugh and Jon Favreau are better in it, and you don't want to kill Vince Vaughn every time he opens his mouth. Then again, I'm all about Swingers. Not what you'd call objective. :o)Brineshrimp wrote:6. Made. Vince Vaughn is absolutely hysterical (and annoying) in this flick. I loved it.

Bandwagon! *jump*
My top 11, not really in order:
* Gosford Park
* The Fifth Element
* Fight Club
* Ronin
* The Blues Brothers
* Shrek
* Snatch
* The Nightmare Before Christmas
* Army of Darkness
* Contact
* Hackers [put this in the 'guilty pleasures' category if you must]
I'm in the middle of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead at the moment, and oddly amused by that too. Reservoir Dogs and 12 Monkeys should get honorable mentions, too.
Note that these aren't necessarily the movies I think are the 'best', in a critical sense. They're just... fun.![Happy faces. :)](./images/smilies/bd_smile.gif)
Edit: Shoot me. How did I not mention The Crow?

Hmm, after much deliberation I have a list but I am not sure I can number it any real sort of way::
Where Eagles Dare
Gleaming the Cube
Grosse Point Blank
Pump Up the Volume
The Shawshank Redemption Perhaps one of the best prison movies ever made.
The Godfather
Once Upon a Time in America
The Dark Crystal
Red Dawn
Das Boot
Air Force One
Blade Runner
Well thats a decent list I think.

I don't think that I could ever commit to a simple "top ten". All 150-odd movies that I currently own are personal favorites of mine (some of them may not be so as much as others, but I probably couldn't narrow it down to anything near ten, regardless). However, I'll list some of them that I don't believe have been mentioned:
- Leon (the international version of The Professional)
- The Boondock Saints
- Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels
- Rob Roy
- Legend
- the Mad Max trilogy
- The Substitute
- the Evil Dead trilogy
- the "man with no name" trilogy (Fistful of Dollars; For a Few Dollars More; The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly)
- As Good As It Gets
