Being enigmatic is not necessarily a virtue.

CRUCIBLE!

Cazmonster launches himself at the platypus and wuffles the litte burrow-dweller like a kid getting his first puppy.

Dude! Glad to see you made it.

Sorry, I was in a hurry.

Metamorph Zeta is a Science Fiction game set in the far reaches of the galaxy, on the planet Zeta. Long ago, the scientists of Zeta developed a virus, codenamed Metamorph, designed to rapidly rebuild the ecosystem of planet Zeta. Unfortunately, it escaped containment before it was completed.

The incomplete virus mutated wildly, infecting thousands of species of plants and animals, transforming them radically. Infected plants and animals became vicious, savage killers with frightening visages and almost supernatural abilities.

Humans infected by Metamorph, however, became something else entirely. Somehow, the mutated virus locks itself into the human genetic structure, safely coexisted with existing DNA code. The host body, when infected, undergoes a rapid series of physical transformations. The final result of these alterations is that humans infected by Metamorph have the ability to assume the shape of a single animal of the same general mass.

This ability, even a thousand years after it first appeared, is still unexplainable by any known scientific process. Normally rigid bones become fluid as water, cells spontaneously change type and form, and consciousness and intelligence are not lost even after the brain reshapes and resizes itself to fit inside the animal cranium.

Over time, the infected humans, known as Shifters, Weres, Zoanthropes, or Metamorphs, congregated together into loose clans of the same species.

(I'll fill the rest in later.)

Mmmmm

Kwydig, you're a studboy.

If somehow I wasn't in tons of games, I'd play.

Have a great time you guys, Kwyndig is the man.

Thank you

I was just using sarcasm to show interest and inspire further explication. Oh, and to be funny. At least the explication part worked. :eek

Crucible uses sand and scraper to clean himself off.

Suddenly he realizes the worst thing about Kwyndig and Caz... Their fur. Instantly his sinuses swell, his face turns red, and he begins sneezing.

Now why is it that a Platypus, a cat, and a Caz are the only ones who posted in a game about people transforming into animals?

Now, I'm going to be doing something a little different with this game.

No character creation.

That's right, you just send me a character background and description (either PM me or send it to kwyndig@yahoo.com with the subject line: Metamorph Zeta), I'll take care of the necessary mechanics.

I'll try to get the rest of the history and some background up later today/tommorrow, but I might not have time until the weekend.

Crucible, I have long ago passed the addiction mark, and am well on the way to obsession ;) The count is up to 17 with none of them anywhere even close to ending, a promised/threatened 18 and a speculative 19.

So I keep trying to tell myself as interesting as both of Kywn's games sound, and as cool as the possibility of Nex running a Bebop universe campaign is, no more games for me. Yet. :D

At least you find my games interesting Image

Unlike my RL gaming group, who only want to play published game settings *shudders* Image

Just to clarify

Would you be necessarily be playing one of the shifters in this game?

Cazmonster cringes at the thought of yet another game.

It isn't required to play as a Metamorph-infected human or animal.

Now, as for available Metamorph breeds: Bears (all types), Dragons (extremely rare), Giant Eagles (rare), Great Cats (Cougars, Leopards (and panthers), Lions, and Tigers (all varieties)), and Wolves.

What?!

No Platypi. Now there's discrimination for you.

Show me a fantasy/sci fi example of a giant platypi, and then you can play one Image

There just happens to be one in a Johny Bravo cartoon, when he's competing in the lumberjack competition. It may not be Sci-fi, but it is mythical.

Cazmonster prepares to get shredded by dikoted claws...

Johnny Bravo, while hilarious, does not count.

Besides, I was aiming for a 'dominant predator' scheme. Platypi, honestly, are nature's most ridiculous creatures.

This coming from a short and furry animal that purrs and chases its own tail. At least Platypi have poisonous spurs!

(Of course, you never see beautiful women sticking a Platypus on their laps and petting them...)

Anyway, back to the history of Planet Zeta.

The intial release of the Metamorph virus was catastrophic, the Wild Lands, as they came to be called, consumed all of the western continent of Asgard. With their ability to utilize the FTL radio system of Starport now lost, the survivors, both Human and Metamorph alike, settled on the eastern continent of Hel.

Unfortunately, the virus beat them to Hel, and the Wild Lands were difficult to take back. This was known as the Dark Time. Over time it was clear that the Shifters had the advantage over the Wild Lands, as they could not be infected by the more lethal strains of Metamorph, having been already infected with Metamorph Prime.

When the Zoanthropes had managed to pacify an area, they would accept pledges of friendship from normal humans, and allow them to settle in the new safe zone. Gradually, these pledges turned into aid, and finally allegiance and sacrifice of sovreignty. The Metamorphs had become the rulers of Zeta, it was the dawning of the Modern Age.
