[Party!] A Late Wedding Reception/Gathering

Well our plans to get it done before Gencon and party there have fallen through, so onto the backup plan. We are broke geeks who have been engaged for 5 years and well enoughs enough. Never gonna have the money to have a wedding with all our friends. So, instead the next best thing.

We'll be married for a week or maybe 2 by Halloween, and while we can't invite you all to the wedding, we can invite you to a weekend of partying, drinking, grilling, and general mayhem. So book your calenders. We'll even see about getting permission to burn things in our rather large backyard, and if we're feeling rich and/or industrious, maybe we'll even get the pool fixed and working.

WHEN: October 28th - November 1st
WHERE: Approx 1 hour north of Atlanta
WHAT: A party, duh
WHO: Everyone who wants to come, and no, gifts are not required nor requested

We'll coordinate hotels if you don't feel like claiming some yard with a tent, claiming some floor, or are highly allergic to cat, and trips down and back from the airport (Hartsfield)/Greyhound/Amtrak station for those who want to fly, ride, or train in.

I want this to rock as hard as it can get, like first gathering rocking. Bring your waterguns, your alcohol (although we can buy plently here), your games, yourselves, a costume if you want, we can raid Dave & Busters or any one of the local clubs should you desire on Halloween itself, and be prepared to have fun.

I probably won't make it either, one of my friends is getting married early October.

But Congrats!

As with every Gathering since the first, I'm not sure if I can make it. But at any rate....CONGRATS!!!!

Not sure what the schedule'll look like then, thanks to the fact that School isn't posting next semester's academic calendar yet. I'd like to come, that much is certain. Whether I'd be able to or not is another thing. At least at this point I'm sure my car will make the trip, since I somewhat recently was forced to bury the Oldsmobile and get a semi-new car. As time draws nearer, somebody remember to poke me, so I'll actually remember this. I really need to meet some of you people face-to-face.

Oh, there will be much poking. There will also be investigation of a japanese restaurant that apparently has a traditional seating room, because that would kick so much ass.

Well, one way or another I'll be down in the very general area some time in the next few months, since I have to buy half of the things that these guys have. Including, but not limited to:
a Zatoichi Sword
the Night Watchman blade-concealing nightstick
"Lightning Bolt" throwing knives
a Throwing Bowie knife
a Chinese War Sword.

All in all, about $300-400US. At least.

Atlanta Cutlery is a very good company. I have bought many items, even a couple swords, from the Mueseum Replicas branch of them. Very good quality stuff.

Excellent. Even more reason to buy their stuff. Besides the fact that it would all kick ass.

Well if your just looking to spend money, we can pay a visit to the nice people at Airsoft Atlanta ;7

I'll be there Kai. No doubts about it.

I should be able to wrangle it, with the g/f being in Boston that weekend, I'll be free to make the trek.

Am also willing to be Philly-Region Car-Pool Guy, unless another of the locals has a better car than me, or would prefer driving themselves.

Assuming Rico can go, I'll probably be with him, as he is my ride to anything out of this damned town. Not that I couldn't drive myself, but certain people would *not* like that idea. Mainly, my parents. Damn this being jailbait. But congrats anyway.

Mmmmm.... Jailbait.

Wait... did I say that out loud? Damn!

37ish days! Okay, so whose coming? yes, maybes, nos? Need to start looking at places to go, checking on paintball if everyone wants to go, warn the liquor store ;) Current idea is that we head to Dave and Busters for the Saturday before Halloween, and we grill a lot of food Friday night. Other than that, plans are totally open.

As mentioned before, I should be there barring unforseen circumstances. I know that Matt McS is working on coming, I'll have to poke Rico and Kitt to see if they're coming. Same with Jackal and the rest of the JAX crew.

Well, my time off from work was just approved. This means I will be there. Unless I get a definite answer from Matt McS that he wants to carpool (since I'm only roughly 1 hour plus north of Philly/Camden), I'm starting the search for cheap flights tonight. I have no desire to drive 14-16 hours by myself, since I can afford to travel in a bit nicer style now with the current job.

To Wild, I've got some questions on sleeping arrangements. If I end up driving, I'll have plenty of room to pack sleeping necessities to use floor space. If I end up flying, I will definitely not. Will additional pillows, blankets, and such be available? Also, how much floor space are we looking at? Will there be enough for the current attendees? And if I'd decide to go that route, any known nearby hotels, price range aside at the moment? Oh, and what are the earliest timeframes to arrive, or the latest to leave? I'll have from Tuesday the 26th until Friday the 5th off, due to my work schedule. I'm thinking of possibly spending some time away as a vacation, since it will be the first I've taken since GenCon last year, so if you do not want early arrivals or late departures, let me know Wild.

To the group as a whole, if I find the time to do it, I have the potential for an SR one-shot that I could run, set against the backdrop of the emergence of Ghostwalker in FDC. Is there interest for such an event?

Sleeping arrangement wise, we will have at least the queen sleeper sofa and a queen size futon, if we get our act together soon we might also get our new bedroom stuff, meaning there would be a full bed available as well. Floor space, we're looking at clearing some tables out of what is currently Nightshadow's room (Yeah we have seperate bedrooms, we're weird like that) and the project room, which could hold a fair amount of people on the floor. If people are feeling particularly adventerous, and its not raining, we have a large backyard and deck and a tent.

So as of right now, we're totally good on sleeping space. If people want to go the route of a hotel, I'll look into it, though I expect it will be about 15-20 minutes out to find a hotel that doesnt look like the setup for a horror movie :)

People are welcome to show up as early as Thursday and stay until Monday in general, if it works better for people and they don't mind ending up the eye of the post-wedding storm, we can tolerate a few as early as Tuesday the 26th.

Meri and I are still trying to sort things out financially. That's why we still haven't given you the go ahead for our attendance yet. We will try and give you as much notice as we can-but I'm afraid it won't be much.

After much viewing of finances, vehicle condition, and all that jazz, it's looking like it would be cheaper to fly down from PHL to ATL.

Round Trip tix, with a Oct 28th Departure and Nov 1 return: 164.

Vehicle Rental for 4-5 days: Roughly 100

Getting two new tires + Alignment and any engine-work I might need: More than that.

Sleeping arrangments are of no huge consquence. I can either split the odd Hotel Room or find a 4'X6' space to occupy for sleeping.

So I'm game for attending. Also Game for Gaming. SR would be nice, even if only a one-shot.

All for SR and promise not to complicate it uneccessarily :)

Finances greatly have screwed my travel ideas, I can neither afford to SW it nor ride it. I would love to attend as it looks like a major blast brewing but unfortunately it doesn't look feasible.

Jeffe, have you not learned the art of packing your clothes within a sleeping bag, rolling it tight enough to be a carry on?

Matt, if you really want to drive, we can do so. I have a 99 Ford Escort that should be reliable enough with few problems. It's relatively up to date on its maintenance, but I was simply leery of driving myself with no other alternate driver. Contact me via PM if you wish to check out the driving feasibility. I can arrange a time sometime over the next three days to call if you like and discuss it on my dime.

I have my sleeping bag and air mattress of doom, given how warm the sleeping bag is, I'll be good for the tent provided no one minds the frightening noises of me getting up. :)

Er...well...not so much of anything anymore. We have a few local friends coming, and maybe one college friend, but as far as Bulldrekkers the only one who'll be here that I know of is Jeff :7

Yeah, and I was there too. Of course, I joined here afterwards. Now all I need to do is invent a time machine and go back and switch the order of events, and all will be well.

Kai: Yeah, no shit. What are the chances of running into a dude who grew up in Pottstown in the middle of nowhere Georgia?

BlackJack: Good to see you made it. Now, if only we get some pods set up in my room and your dorm...I could really go for another duel right about now, as I watch the Eagles get ripped apart. Just beware that Shadowcat's Gauss, old man. :lol :D

That was an absolute blast. I'd love to go another few rounds. I'd rather fire off a gauss than try and figure how I'm going to build one.

You tell me when, I'll be there. I love my MegaMek, though I haven't used it in a number of months. Need to get back it. Heck, with Blackjack around as another BT player, maybe I could talk you two and Nex into an actual ongoing MW IRC game with MegaMek as the BT side of things.
