Hello all,
Lately a couple of my close friends have been constantly flooding me with seriously stupid "facts", from stupid conspiracy websites. They refuse to read actual news agency's material, they think ABC, Reuters, BBC, and the like are nothing but fronts for "propaganda for the CIA", so I am asking anybody who knows of a legitimate newspaper or news agency that is not main stream to please post a link here, please.
The newspapers I respect and have tried to show these two friends are like:
The International Herald Tribune
Associated Press
Washington Post
New York Times
I guess these were a bit too "main stream" for them to even consider. Yeah, I know it isn't up to me to convince them of anything, but it's bothering me a bit when all I get from them is "American's conspiracy..."
Thanks

In case they can read German, I'd recommend the Süddeutsche Zeitung, which I read on a daily basis.[/url]

If they think Matt Drudge is a mouthpeice for the CIA, they don't need convincing, they need euthanizing. 'Course, most of his stories won't work for them, since he most often links to more mainstream sources (Washington Post, yahoo, etc. . . ). But for you, on the left side of the page, toward the bottom, is a long list of links to news sources.

There is then a need to guard against a temptation to overstate the economic evils of our own age, and to ignore the existence of similar, or worse, evils in earlier ages. Even though some exaggeration may, for the time, stimulate others, as well as ourselves, to a more intense resolve that the present evils should no longer exist, but it is not less wrong and generally it is much more foolish to palter with truth for good than for a selfish cause. The pessimistic descriptions of our own age, combined with the romantic exaggeration of the happiness of past ages must tend to setting aside the methods of progress, the work of which, if slow, is yet solid, and lead to the hasty adoption of others of greater promise, but which resemble the potent medicines of a charlatan, and while quickly effecting a little good sow the seeds of widespread and lasting decay. This impatient insincerity is an evil only less great than the moral torpor which can endure, that we with our modern resources and knowledge should look contentedly at the continued destruction of all that is worth having. There is an evil and an extreme impatience as well as an extreme patience with social ills.

I'd also recommend http://www.abc.net.au/news/ - the news agency of the ABC, Australia's public broadcaster. Not independent like Matt Drudge, perhaps, but still a nice change from the commercial news agencies.
